If you're here, congratulations are likely in order! So pop a bottle of champagne, call all your friends and family, and tell the world your good news!
Once that's all done, the real work begins. We get it. We've been married for two years and we still wake up in the middle of the night thinking about all the decisions that had to be made. Planning a wedding is hard work, but selecting a photographer shouldn't be. Whether you are looking to hire us or any other photographer, we've put together a list of frequently asked questions to help you navigate through the process. And if we missed one of your burning questions, feel free to contact us!
1) How much do you charge for wedding photography?
This is usually the number one question we receive. And we don't blame you. Weddings can get expensive and every dollar counts. That said, our answer is a bit long-winded. Our wedding packages start at $3,500. In the grand scheme of things, this might seem like a lot of money, but at the end of the day, the decor you invest in will be gone, your wedding dress will be preserved, the tuxes will be returned, the flowers will wilt and die, the makeup will wipe away, and all that remains are the memories. And if we're being honest with ourselves, your wedding day will go by so fast, you'll hardly remember all the details the next day. Hiring a photographer you trust is important second only to marrying the right person. That's why you ALWAYS get two photographers when you hire us. We want to make sure you remember every. single. detail of the best day of your life. We want to create memories through photos you can look at well beyond the big day. Good photos aren't just pretty pictures. They're snippets of the story that evoke as much joy and emotion each time you look at them, as the day you got married. Whether you hire us or someone else, don't skimp on the lasting memories. Please.
2) What's included in the price of your wedding pricing?
First and foremost...you get us, and we're pretty awesome! Seriously, ask our dogs. Also, see question 1 above. Beyond that, all of our wedding packages include your own digital online gallery where you can download the edited photos, create a favorites list and share photos on social media. In addition, we also offer the option to order high-quality professional prints direct from your gallery. We partner with a well known print lab to create stunning images true to color as edited by us. We have no requirement to purchase prints from us, but we are HUGE fans of printed photos.
Additionally, all wedding packages include a complimentary engagement session. This session is a great way for us all to get to know each other and create stunning images. For our engagement sessions, we try to target photos that tell your love story; capturing some of your favorite things/places you both enjoy. Maybe it's your favorite hiking spot, or ordering your favorite pizza in, or maybe it's taking photos in the middle of the street in the small town where you both grew up. Whatever it is, we want to capture photos true to you. Many clients use these images for save the dates or to create an album for use as a guest book the day of the wedding. Our clients rave that the engagement session is fun, and helps them feel more comfortable on their wedding day. If that isn't enough, we offer additional add-ons such as album design and printing, rehearsal night photography, day after photography, and more. Let us know if you have a specific request.
3) I only want 2-3 hours of photography, is that enough time to capture my day?
Honestly, no. That's why we won't price anything less than 10 consecutive hours of photography. Firstly, see question 1 above. Secondly, we want to tell the WHOLE story, not just a few bits and pieces. We want to capture before, during, after the ceremony and everything in between. You may not frame that beautiful photo of your wedding shoes, but trust us, you'll love having it to look back at in 10 years when you can't hardly remember what they looked like. We're going to photograph every detail of the day, and deliver it to you in a story format that best jogs your memory. It takes time to do that, and no one wants to be rushed. We'll work with you ahead of the big day to iron out a timeline for photos and make sure we capture everything you want as well as photos you hadn't thought of.
4) What happens if my allotted time runs out?
After the 10 consecutive hours have passed, you have the option to add additional time on the wedding day for $400/hour. If you arrange this additional time with us at the initial booking, it will be $250/hour. After photographing multiple weddings, trust us when we say 10 hours is typically more than enough time. If you have a special exit planned and you want that photographed, you may want to request additional hours ahead of time.
5) Will I receive every image you take?
No, and trust us...you don't want them all. On average, we deliver around 100 photos per hour of photography. Sometimes more, sometimes less. These photos are what we consider the best of the best. We spend countless hours after each session meticulously reviewing the photos for focus, duplication, emotion, flattering angles, open eyes, etc. We have the expertise and the software to do this efficiently and guarantee you see only the best images. You'll notice during your sessions we take A LOT of photos. You'd be surprised how a split second can dramatically change the look and feel of a photo. Let us handle the hard work, and rest assured you're getting everything you could possibly want.
6) How would you describe your shooting style?
Hopefully you've had a chance to look through our galleries, but we would define our style as moody, emotional, and candid. We want to be the behind the scenes crew capturing photos in a "fly on the wall" type of way. Think of it like a documentary where you have a camera crew following you around but not necessarily asking you to do anything specific. You'll have all the photos you want captured in a way that truly embodies your big day. Sure we'll take some posed photos with family and friends, and we'll take charge of this so you don't have do, but throughout most of the day, we want everything to be as natural as possible.
7) Can I see a sample gallery of a full day from start to finish?
Absolutely. Nothing to hide here. If you can't find what you're looking for on our website or blog, just ask and we'll send you a sample gallery from a past wedding. This will also give you an idea of what you can expect your gallery to look like.
8) Do you book more than one wedding per day?
No way. If you hire us, rest assured you are our #1 priority that day.
9) When will I receive my edited photos?
This answer is largely dependent on current work in the queue. We edit all sessions in the order that we take them. That said, we know you're excited to see them and we're excited to edit them. We always try to send a few teasers within 24 hours, and we'll continue to send teasers while editing the photos. Right now, we are experiencing a 4 week turnaround for engagements, and 6-8 weeks for weddings. If something changes, you'll be the first to know.
10) What rights do I have with the digital photos?
This language will be clearly spelled out in your contract, but generally speaking, you have the right to print the photos for personal use. You can not sell or distribute the photos without our written consent. If you post the photos on social media, we simply ask that you tag us in the photos.
11) Do you photograph destination weddings?
Heck yea! We love to travel. Special bonus to couples getting married in a location we haven't visited. Pricing for destination weddings does increase to cover travel expenses, however.
12) I love you guys! How do I reserve my date?
Once you're ready to hire us, we'll send you a contract and invoice for a deposit totaling one third the total for photography services, including any add-ons. Then we'll work on scheduling your engagement session and get this party started!
13) If we cancel the wedding, will we receive our deposit back?
Although we review each request on a case-by-case basis, ultimately the answer is no. Once you reserve your date, we do not book additional clients for that date.
14) Are there fees if we have to reschedule our wedding?
Again, we review each request on a case-by-case basis, however, if we're still available for your new date, we will try to accommodate your request at no additional charge.
15) What happens if you get sick on our wedding day?
Knock on wood, we've never missed a wedding due to illness (or any other reason for that matter!) However, if we were to suddenly come down with the black plague, cholera, or some other deadly illness, we'll call upon our vast network to fill that spot. This is highly unlikely, but just know that we have options to make sure you get what you've paid for.
16) I would love to order prints and an album of our photos after they're edited. Is this something you can help with?
Absolutely. In fact, your online gallery will have lots of options for prints, framed images, canvases, metal prints, albums, magazines, and more. It's SUUUUPERRRR simple to order and the quality of products is the best in the industry. We don't push product sales much because we know many of our clients are savvy enough to find ways to print themselves, but we are extremely passionate about printing your images. We strongly urge you to avoid big box stores, though, because you just never know what print quality you'll receive. And if you want an album, we can do all the leg work so you don't have to. Check out this page about albums to see why we are so passionate about them and learn more about what we offer.
17) If you could give your couples one piece of wedding day advice, what would it be?
Slow down, enjoy each and every moment, and don't sweat the small stuff. Lean on those around you to help make the day go smoothly. We tell our clients we're not just their photographers for the day, we're there to help in any way we can. Don't be afraid to ask us to grab your purse when we're running to catch the bus. Or don't be surprised if you see us holding a baby while the bridesmaid is fixing her hair. We become part of your team and we'll do everything in our power to make sure your day goes as planned.
